Your Design standard

If you are a good designer, you naturally care about your work because you have a standard that needs to be met along with the business goals for every project. Now, if you work in a company or an organisation that prefers the following working methods and it seems like a norm for your colleagues, then you should think about why you still want to do what you do.

  • There’s a preference to only go after temporary solutions because of the time and technical constraints, but for a prolonged period.
  • There’s a culture of cutting corners when it comes to delivering the design solution or product features.
  • It’s blatantly obvious that the project becomes a box-ticking exercise to get it out of the door.

The Consequences Of Not Taking Action

When you ignore the problems or do not take any action to resolve them, they will not only cause permanent damage to the organisation itself. However, they will also have a huge impact on the mental health of the employees. These problems would destroy the business and should not be taken lightly. Here are a few examples of what they could be:

  • Creating and encouraging a toxic business culture for the employees
  • There would be no sense of belonging for the employees
  • Losing high-quality, talented employees
  • Ultimate a lose-lose situation for both the business and the employees

How To Resolve

It’s a problem that can only be solved from the top down with great determination to change the company culture, which is usually the main culprit. The result of ignoring these issues is tremendous and would certainly drive the business down or even permanently cease to exist. As design leaders, we cannot afford to ignore these warning signs, and we should always be aware of these issues and help to resolve them as much as we can.
